P.S. I Love You
This was Cecilia Ahern’s first novel that she had written and published when she was 21 years old. This novel also happens to be her most popular book and the reason she shot to fame. If we dive into the story, we find that it is a love story of two friends, Gerry and Holly. While they started out as friends, they ended up in a relationship as adults. However, it seems not everything in life goes so smoothly, and Gerry and Holly are about to learn exactly that.
As Gerry learns about his brain tumor, both he and Holly know they don’t have much time left together. Unfortunately, they were right. Gerry loses his battle, and Holly is left feeling empty and incomplete. But their love hasn’t died yet. On her 30th birthday, Holly discovers the letters that Gerry had carefully timed and arranged for her.
Just as it sounds, the book is quite a journey. It will leave you heartbroken and then, it will make you happy once again. There was even a movie adaptation of this book because of its fame and success. Whether you watch the movie or read the book, be sure to grab a tissue box (or several) and prepare yourself for the tears.
Postscript is the sequel to P.S. I Love You and it shows how Holly has grown and matured as a person. It is set 7 years after her husband’s passing, and 6 years after she read his last letter to her. In his last letter, Gerry urged Holly to find the courage to move on and start a new life without him. And it seems she has taken his advice and done exactly that. She believes she has finally achieved peace and is proud of her journey through that grief.
However, her relief is short-lived as she is approached by a club called “PS, I Love You”. The members of this club reach out to her to ask her help in regards to leaving something for the people they love. Holly is once again tested and put in a position, where she loses the peace she had and wonders about the future and the past.
Just like the first book, this book is also very captivating and paints a perfect picture of grief and maturity. The story is written in such a touching and wonderful manner that you truly get into Holly’s shoes and feel what she is feeling.
Thanks for the Memories
Another compelling story by Cecilia Ahern is the tale of Joyce Conway and Justin Hitchcock. Justin comes to Dublin to give a lecture on arts and is persuaded by a pretty doctor to donate his blood. Regrettably, he does exactly that. Joyce has just suffered a terrible accident due to a broken marriage. Once she recovers, she moves back in with her dad and has a run-in with Justin. She seems attracted to him, but only because he seems really familiar.
She only gets more baffled by the minute when she realizes that she has developed some unusual likes, dislikes, and hobbies. She also has some faint memories of a little girl with blonde hair. Other than that, her memories are flooded with things she has never seen or experienced before. The book is absolutely captivating and the storyline is truly one-of-a-kind.
The story follows Lou Suffern, who is a very busy businessman. Due to this reason, he doesn’t prioritize his family and is constantly trying to improve his performance. Gabe is a homeless man who impressed Lou and is offered a job right away. In an unexpected turn of events, Lou learns the importance of family and teamwork thanks to Gabe.
The story might seem very typical and boring, however, this book is also a really good read. It is like a perfect book wrapped up in packing paper and gifted at Christmas. That is exactly how the book feels and you will know it, once you read it. It is another Cecilia Ahern novel that you do not want to miss out on!
Well, that is a wrap! These were the top Cecilia Ahern novels that can help you get started. There are other honorable mentions of books by Cecilia Ahern that you can also grab and read like One Hundred Names, Where Rainbows End, Perfect, If You Could See Me Now, How to Fall In Love, etc. However, be sure to prepare yourself for endless tears in some of these books. So, which book are you picking first?
