IELTS – International English Language Testing System is one of the most popular language exams in the world. It is jointly owned by the British Council and IDP and is recognized as a measure of language proficiency for the purposes of immigration and university admission.
There are two types of examinations:
- General (for immigration and residency purposes)
- Academic (for educational purposes)
There is a paper test and a computer-based IELTS Preparation Course in Dubai, with IELTS results announced after 14 days for the paper test and after five working days for the CBT test. For both tests, speaking is done in person with an examiner; there is no limit to the number of times the IELTS test can be repeated.
The IELTS test is divided into four sections:
- Section 1 is listening.
- section 2 is reading.
- section 3 is writing.
- section 4 is speaking.
The readings take place on the same day or the day before, depending on the time. The Reading and Writing sections of the general IELTS test and the Academic IELTS test differ slightly.
Understand the format of the IELTS exam
Understand each section of the test. The Listening section lasts 30 minutes and consists of listening to four different audio recordings, including conversations and monologues and answering questions about them. The Reading section of the IELTS General Test consists of three long sentences and related questions.
The Writing section of the IELTS Academic Test consists of an essay and essay questions. Most candidates had difficulty with the Writing section, especially task 2, in which they had to write an essay of at least 250 words within 40 minutes.
Preparation for the writing tasks required a thorough understanding of grammar and vocabulary, as well as the structure of essays. The syllabus and course structure are designed to ensure that students acquire the skills necessary to move from Level 7 to Level 8.
