Some Tips
Packing and Storage Suggestions
Use the same box size.
Using the same size containers or boxes makes stacking easier and more efficient use of space.
Reinforcement Boxes
Use multiple strips of packing tape to reinforce the bottom of each box.
Fill from Heavy to Light
To achieve balance, put heavier items at the bottom of your boxes and lighter items on top.
Label your Containers
Label your containers or boxes with the contents on all sides. Use a large print that is visible from a distance.
Make Use of Color Codes
Color-code boxes according to the room they belong in to simplify your move.
Keep breakables safe.
Use unprinted newsprint and bubble wrap to protect your glassware, dishes, and other breakables.
Make use of a hand truck.
Using a hand truck to move multiple boxes at once saves time and protects your back from strain.
Wardrobe Containers
To move hanging clothes, use a wardrobe box. A hand truck is ideal for moving wardrobe boxes. For dual use, shoes and rugged gear should be stored at the bottom of the wardrobe box.
Packing Your Storage Unit
Safe Lock
Use a strong, secure lock. Our high-security disc lock comes highly recommended. Its safe lock is one of the best as it is considered one of the best self-storage companies.
Small vs. Large Items
Place small items in the back of the storage unit, such as a computer or television, and larger items in the front (sofa, fridge, washer & dryer).
Make use of Pallets
Place furniture, boxes, and other items on pallets to protect them from the changing temperatures of a concrete floor.
Bait for rodents
Use rodent bait, such as De-Con, as a precaution in a corner or two or in the front and back of the unit.
Covers for furniture
To protect furniture and valuables from dust and condensation, wrap them in plastic.
Sofas that stand up
Sofas and loveseats can be stored on their ends to save space on the floor.
Electronics
Allow electronic equipment, such as a radio, television, computer, and so on, to come to room temperature before plugging it into a power outlet after you have vacated the storage unit.
Protect Your Unit Door
Move the hasp on the storage unit all the way over so that both holes line up, then lock it.
Changes in Address
Maintain your current address and phone number with the office.
Storage Goods Prohibited
Certain items, such as explosives, toxic matter, and flammable liquids, are prohibited from storage units for the sake of public safety and are backed by state law. It is also prohibited to bring live animals or any perishable items that require atmospheric control. Anything that is illegal outside of storage remains illegal in storage.
Remember to remove all fuel from any motor or engine before storing it. If you have any questions, please contact your facility manager. It is known to be the largest self-storage company in the USA.
